A Brief Profile

Triune Arts is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1981 with a mandate to "develop a permanent ensemble of actors and directors through workshops and stage/screen productions, and thereby to develop the dramatic arts in Canada." Since 1990, our focus has been to develop educational resources on a variety of subjects, including international development issues, youth employment training, cross-cultural communication and, more recently, alternative dispute and conflict resolution. We have been distributing those resources worldwide since 1995.

While our work is national and international in scope, Triune Arts is a local charity of Toronto based members who discount or donate their professional services. We receive generous discounts and donations from suppliers to the film, theatre and video industry as well as grants from the public and private sectors. Income is generated through tuition from workshops and from distribution of film and video productions.

A key feature of our educational approach is to involve those most directly concerned with an issue in the development of materials. Our constituents are the participants in our videos, the end-users of our resources -- teachers, youth, facilitators, social workers families -- and the providers of expertise in terms of content. We provide the creative model and technical expertise needed to develop high quality resources. This alternative approach ensures that our programs are both educational and highly entertaining.

As it heads into its twenty-fifth year of operation, Triune Arts continues to specialize in developing film, video, multimedia, music and theatre related projects and developing communications skills for professionals.

Support our Work

-- Since the beginning of the 1990s, governments in many countries have reduced funding to community-based agencies in all service sectors. As a result, we must increasingly raise funds from the private sector to underwrite the cost of developing new educational resources and updating our current catalogue. If you feel our work is making a valuable contribution to society, please help us to make a difference by earmarking your donation (income tax deductible in Canada) towards Resource Development. If there is an important issue you think should be addressed or you'd like to become involved, partner with us in the development of a resource and see your donation help create effective tools for social change

-- Since 1981 Triune Arts has relied entirely on sales to meet its operating expenses. Your generous donation will help us cover the incidental operating costs of running this non-profit charity.

-- Donations in multiples of $125 ($125, $250, 375, $500 etc.) will provide free resources to volunteer-based grassroots organizations. We have waiting lists of deserving groups who have requested donated or discounted materials. The reasons for requesting donated resources vary widely, but the examples below are typical:

"We are extremely isolated and have not only limited dollars for resources, but limited access to resources" -- Andrea Ronnebeck, Executive Director, New Starts for Women, Red Lake, ON

"... In previous years, a full-time Social Worker was employed by the facility to develop and deliver much of the treatment, but funding reductions in 1996/97 eliminated this position. Since that time, front-line Youth Workers have been responsible for the provision of treatment. Although keen to deliver programs, these Youth Workers are not qualified or otherwise equipped to develop them. The videos in the "Resolving Conflict Creatively" series would be invaluable program aids." -- Elizabeth Clarke, Director, Mee-Quam Youth Residence, Cochrane, ON

"... Clinic resources are extremely tight. We have a very limited budget for training opportunities for staff, volunteers and Board members ($660.00 in total for all volunteers/staff for the entire year!) Moreover, it is difficult to find appropriate training tools for such a diverse group. Finally, the subject matter is very useful and on point.Ó -- Dianne Wintermute, Executive Director, East Toronto Community Legal Services, Toronto, ON

"...(i) to use as a training resource for our staff and (ii) we are trying to develop and implement peer mediations along with an anti-violence awareness initiative in local schools. We feel that Triune Arts' video series may eliminate the need for us to produce costly training materials ourselves..." -- Karen Young, Clinical Manager, Halton Adolescent Support Services, Burlington, ON
