Resolving Conflict Creatively in the Multicultural Community
"Inter-Cultural Mediation"
Participants from the four Commonwealth regions, themselves experienced in conflict resolution, got together last summer with workshop leader, Kathleen Cleland Moyer to upgrade their skills and knowledge of the mediation process. In the video, during Kathleen's short absence, the participants stage a mock mediation and feedback session to make the point that ignorance of other people's culture (or cultural misunderstanding) can become the underlying cause of conflict. When Kathleen returns she witnesses a "real" conflict (almost violent!?) between the participants and uses the opportunity to demonstrate some techniques on how to address inter-cultural conflict.
Reviews
The Inter-Cultural Mediation was excellent for showing possible problems that may arise in the mediation process, and it demonstrates the mediation process well.
Kathryn Vroman, The Mediation Center, Costa Mesa, CA
The premise is good and the setting intriguing ... could be very useful especially in light of the fact that there are so few good materials available on intercultural conflict resolution"
